XL vintage plaster shell wall sconce crafted in France during the 1940s and attributed to renowned French decorator and designer Serge Roche.
Composed of a substantial thick plaster structure, this sculptural wall light takes the form of an oversized shell, characterized by pronounced reliefs and beautifully detailed surfaces.
Its timeless and monumental silhouette creates a strong architectural presence on the wall. The concealed light source directs the light upward, producing a soft indirect glow while emphasizing the depth, texture, and sculptural quality of the plaster.
Both decorative and functional, the piece can be considered a luminous sculpture in its own right, reflecting the expressive use of plaster associated with French decorative arts of the period.
The sconce has remained in the same house on the French Atlantic coast since the 1940s, giving the piece a particularly interesting and preserved provenance.
