XL Sculptural Stained Glass Wall Sconce in Concrete and Glass, Sweden, 1950s

Important XL wall sconce produced in Sweden during the 1950s.

This rare piece is the result of remarkable artisanal craftsmanship, employing an unusual technique of embedding colored glass fragments into textured concrete to create a modern interpretation of stained glass through a distinctly Brutalist lens. Both lighting fixture and sculptural artwork, it embodies the experimental spirit of post-war Scandinavian design.

Its powerful relief and raw materiality give the piece a commanding architectural presence. Embedded within the textured concrete structure, the colored glass fragments capture and diffuse light in a vibrant and fragmented manner. Once illuminated, the composition comes alive with spectacular reflections and glowing tonal variations, transforming the sconce into a luminous wall sculpture.

Balancing monumentality with poetic delicacy, this piece stands as a true focal point within an interior. The contrast between the rugged mineral surface and the luminous transparency of the glass creates a unique visual tension that is both dramatic and timeless.

A rare collectible work distinguished by its sculptural scale, handcrafted construction, and exceptional Brutalist character.
